Objective
Design an eye-catching poster to promote one of William Shakespeare's most-known play/story for the Illinois Shakespeare Festival.
Concept
Purple is historically associated with royalty and nobility. It also serves as a symbol of ambition and desire for power. Macbeth is a play that features witches and supernatural elements, and purple used to enhance the eerie and otherworldly atmosphere of the play.
As for the hands, In theater and performance, there is a lot of bodily movement and expression through the body, and the hands are a way to showcase that idea. The hands in the poster reflect Macbeth's ambition and greed for power. The hands at the bottom represent the witches' presence and how their prophecies triggered the play's events.
The goal of power and kingship that Macbeth aspires to is symbolized by the Golden Crown and yellow, and oranges. His ambition for the "golden crown" drives him to commit a series of heinous acts.
The poster almost tricks the viewer. When you first glance at it, the color and main image are really appealing and captivating, but with closer inspection, you can make out the other components that unfolds the play.
Even though the title is appealing, a closer look reveals the flaws which reflect how Macbeth has his own flaws."
